Abstract
Spinal cord tumors originating in the high cervical region are still challenging in terms of diagnosis and surgical treatment because of their equivocal clinical characteristics and anatomical individuality. Decisions regarding surgical approach and method of resection also vary according to the location of the tumor or relationship to surrounding structures. Here, we present a case of spinal cord schwannoma originating from the C2 nerve root and extending into the extraforaminal area that was successfully treated by laminectomy and complete resection of the tumor via posterior approach with an excellent clinical outcome. We also discuss the current status of high cervical spinal cord tumors in terms of clinical presentation and surgical strategy.
